Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial Eternal Flame

Near Huntsville, Alabama

The flame you see burning here never goes out. This is the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial, in downtown Huntsville and the eternal flame at its center burns in memory of everyone from this county who died in service. The memorial was dedicated on a date chosen for its symmetry, the eleventh day of the eleventh month, two thousand eleven.

Panels of polished black granite circle a fountain and carry the names of hundreds of Madison County men and women killed in action, from the First World War all the way to the present day. Bronze figures anchor the memorial. It is a place built so that the names, and the flame, do not flicker out.
