The Kick Six: One Hundred and Nine Yards into Legend

Alabama

On November thirtieth, two thousand thirteen, Auburn and Alabama were tied twenty-eight to twenty-eight with one second left in the Iron Bowl. Alabama sent kicker Adam Griffith onto the field to attempt a fifty-seven-yard field goal. It fell short.

Auburn's Chris Davis was standing in his own end zone. He caught the ball, saw nothing but open field, and ran. One hundred and nine yards later, Davis crossed the goal line as Jordan-Hare Stadium went into something beyond celebration. Auburn won thirty-four to twenty-eight. Davis's return won the game on the final play. The play became known simply as the Kick Six, and it remains one of the most replayed moments in the sport. Auburn radio announcer Rod Bramblett's call, delivered in a voice barely recognizable through the noise, has been replayed again and again. A single second put on a clock changed everything.
