Pima Air and Space Museum

Arizona

Just south of Tucson along Davis-Monthan Air Force Base sits one of the largest aviation museums in the world. The Pima Air and Space Museum opened in nineteen seventy-six with a few dozen aircraft parked in the desert sun. Today it holds close to four hundred aircraft spread across eighty acres of outdoor display and six indoor hangars, making it one of the largest aviation museums in the country.

Among the collection are a replica of the Wright Brothers' Flyer, a retired SR-seventy-one Blackbird, and a B-twenty-nine Superfortress. Adjacent to the museum is the famous AMARG facility, nicknamed "the Boneyard," where the United States military stores and preserves more than three thousand aircraft in the dry desert air, visible on guided bus tours.
