Charles M. Schulz Museum: Snoopy's Home Base

Near Santa Rosa, California

Santa Rosa was where Charles Schulz chose to live and work for the last three decades of his life, and the museum bearing his name sits on the very ground where his studio once stood. Schulz first came to Sonoma County in nineteen fifty-eight and moved his home and studio permanently to Santa Rosa in nineteen sixty-nine, where he remained until his death in February of two thousand. The museum opened in two thousand two, housing the world's largest collection of original Peanuts artwork along with a faithful recreation of the drawing studio where Schulz produced the strip for nearly fifty years.

A hundred-seat theater, an outdoor garden with a Snoopy head-shaped labyrinth, and a skating rink across the street called Snoopy's Home Ice round out what amounts to a small campus devoted to the strip and the man who created it. The last new Peanuts strip ran in newspapers the day after he died.
