Pritchard House: Titusville's Victorian Relic

Florida

On the main street through Titusville, the Pritchard House stands as one of the few surviving Victorian homes in Brevard County built during the Florida citrus boom of the eighteen eighties and nineties. Completed in eighteen ninety-one, it was built for Captain James Pritchard, a local merchant whose family was among the pioneer settlers of the Indian River region. The house is a two-story frame structure with the wide porches, decorative millwork, and steep gabled rooflines that defined prosperous Florida domesticity before concrete block and air conditioning changed everything.

It served as the family home for decades, eventually becoming a historic house museum operated by the North Brevard Heritage Foundation. The house survived two major hurricanes, the collapse of the citrus industry, and a century of Florida development and still stands within a few blocks of the Indian River waterfront where the Pritchard family first arrived.
