The Lewis Spring House: Florida's Only Frank Lloyd Wright Home
Near Tallahassee, Florida
Tucked into a quiet Tallahassee neighborhood is the only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed private residence in the state of Florida. The Lewis Spring House was built in nineteen fifty-four for banker George Lewis the Second and his wife Clifton, a community activist. He designed the house in his hemicycle style, one of the rarest forms of his later career, with two curved facades that give the floor plan the shape of an American football.
Red tidewater cypress, limestone, concrete, and glass from the surrounding region make up most of the structure. The family hosted civil rights meetings here. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
