Temple, Georgia
Georgia
Temple, Georgia, sits in Carroll County just west of Atlanta, and it took its name in eighteen eighty-three, when the Georgia Pacific Railway was extended to the settlement on its push west toward Birmingham. Settlers had been gathering along the right-of-way as construction progressed.
The town received its charter in eighteen eighty-three. It later became home to the Temple Model School, which is said to have gained statewide recognition for its approach to rural education. A small Carroll County railroad town turned out to produce one of Georgia's early experiments in public school reform.
