The Boise B on Table Rock
Near Boise, Idaho
Look up to the sandstone bluff of Table Rock above Boise and you will see a single white letter B laid out in stone. It is said to have gone up in the early nineteen thirties, the work of Boise High School graduates. Over the years it has gotten fresh coats of paint to keep it bright against the rock.
The Boise B belongs to an Idaho tradition you will find all over the state, hillside letters, marching up slopes above small towns. There are about thirty-four of them in Idaho, most standing for the first letter of a town's name or for the local high school team. Simple as it is, the B has become a quiet landmark of the city, watching over Boise from its perch on Table Rock.
