The K27 Memorial
Idaho
In the Coeur d'Alene area, the call sign K Twenty-Seven carries a heavy meaning. It belonged to Sergeant Greg Moore of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department. In the early hours of May fifth, twenty fifteen, Moore approached a suspicious man on a quiet street.
The man, who had a stolen pistol hidden in his jacket, drew it and shot the sergeant. Greg Moore, a sixteen-year veteran of the force, became the first Coeur d'Alene officer ever killed in the line of duty. The community built a memorial in his honor, with three waterfalls named Respect, Honor, and Remember, the water lit blue for the thin blue line of law enforcement.
On the central stone sits his photograph and the words that described the man: father, husband, friend, brother, protector, son. A decade later, the city still gathers each May to remember him.
