The Next Jackson Hole?

Near Driggs, Idaho

For most of its life Driggs was a sleepy farm town, but in recent years it has become one of the fastest changing places in the region. The reason sits just over Teton Pass. As Jackson Hole grew into one of the most expensive resort communities in the country, buyers and workers priced out of Wyoming looked west and found that Teton Valley offered the same mountains, the same powder at Grand Targhee, and a shorter drive than many Jackson commutes, at a fraction of the cost.

The pandemic years accelerated everything. Remote workers arrived, home prices climbed steeply, putting the typical house well out of reach of many local wages. That boom has brought new restaurants, shops, and energy to a once quiet Main Street.

It has also brought strain. Roads, housing, and services built for a farm town struggle to keep up, working families find it harder to afford to stay, and many longtime residents worry that Driggs is drifting toward becoming the very kind of place people once came here to escape. It is the classic mountain town dilemma, playing out in real time.
