Jasper Desk: A Century of Wood in Indiana
Indiana
Jasper, Indiana earned its nickname as the Wood Capital of the World, and the Jasper Desk Company is part of that story. It grew out of a community where German immigrant craftsmen had already made woodworking a local calling. The company survived two world wars, the Great Depression, and every shift the furniture market threw at it, eventually becoming a well-known maker of school and office desks. Today Jasper is still home to a remarkable cluster of wood-products firms, carrying forward a tradition that goes back generations, when the forests of southern Indiana seemed inexhaustible.
