Taylorsville: The County Seat Columbus Left Behind

Indiana

Taylorsville is a small community in Bartholomew County, a short way from Columbus, which has been the county seat since Indiana organized the county in eighteen twenty-one. Taylorsville began as a farming community and was formally platted in eighteen forty-nine, at first under the name Herod. It never grew into much more than a crossroads near Columbus, overshadowed by the county seat next door.
