Cass County Soldiers Monument

The towering memorial in the City Park here in Atlantic rises high above the park, crowned by a figure of Lady Liberty. Below her stand bronze figures representing the nation's servicemen, with plaques listing the names of Cass County's veterans. The county raised the money for a fitting tribute over years of fundraising, and the monument was finally dedicated in nineteen nineteen, honoring the men who served in the Civil War, the Spanish American War, and the Great War. For a small Iowa county seat, it remains one of the more ambitious soldiers' memorials in the state.
