Cumming, Iowa

Iowa

Cumming is a small Warren County community that traces its start to a land sale in eighteen eighty-six, when Cyrus G. Callison and his wife sold farmland to the Chicago, Saint Paul and Kansas City Railroad. The town was platted soon afterward.

The name most likely honors an early settler named Griffith Cumming, though some sources point to a railroad official. It grew into a small railroad town with stores, churches, a bank, and a post office. It has remained modest ever since, a Des Moines-area suburb today but still tiny.
