General Evan Hultman Plaza

Iowa

This plaza in Waterloo honors Evan Hultman, an Iowan whose life ran through both law and the army. Born in nineteen twenty-five, he served in the Army during the Second World War, then studied at the University of Iowa, earning his law degree in nineteen fifty-two. He went on to become Attorney General of Iowa, elected in nineteen sixty and serving until nineteen sixty-five.

Alongside his legal and political career, he stayed in uniform for decades, rising to the rank of major general in the United States Army Reserve. Friends knew him as Curly. He lived a long life, dying in early twenty twenty-five at the age of ninety-nine.

The plaza named for him is a quiet civic nod to a man who spent his years serving Iowa in courtrooms and in the field.
