Winchester Downtown Commercial District
Near Lexington, Kentucky
You are in the heart of historic Winchester, a long established Kentucky town. This downtown commercial district covers about twenty-one acres and holds more than a hundred contributing buildings, a remarkably intact collection of late nineteenth century architecture that earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places in nineteen eighty-two.
Locals call Main Street the White Way, named for the lampposts that light the avenue. Anchoring it all are the Clark County Courthouse from eighteen fifty-three and the elegant Kerr Building from eighteen eighty-nine on the corner of North Main and West Broadway. Walk these blocks and you pass the old opera house, the heritage museum, and storefronts that have watched this Bluegrass crossroads town do business for more than a hundred and fifty years.
