Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library
Near Ann Arbor, Michigan
On the north campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library holds more than twenty million pages of documents from the presidency of the only person ever to serve as both Vice President and President without winning a national election. Ford attended the University of Michigan as an undergraduate and played center on the Wolverines football team before going on to Yale Law School and Congress.
The library was dedicated April twenty-seventh, nineteen eighty-one, at a cost of four point three million dollars. It is the only presidential library whose museum is located in a separate city: the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum is in Grand Rapids, about a hundred and thirty miles west. Together they hold the record of a presidency defined by the pardon of Richard Nixon, the fall of Saigon, and the quiet restoration of institutional trust after Watergate.
