Sloan Museum, Flint's Automotive Memory
Near Flint, Michigan
The Sloan Museum of Discovery in Flint's Cultural Center takes its name from Alfred P. Sloan Junior, the man who built General Motors into a global industrial giant as its president and chairman from nineteen twenty-three onward. The museum opened in nineteen sixty-six and holds more than one hundred Flint-built vehicles, from early horse-drawn carriages through the cars that made Flint's name worldwide.
Flint is where Billy Durant founded General Motors in nineteen oh eight, and where Buick and Chevrolet both got their starts. The collection documents that whole arc, alongside regional history from Genesee County going back to the frontier era. The museum also holds a large collection of artifacts and archival material on Flint and Genesee County.
