Turner-Dodge House

Near Lansing, Michigan

The Turner-Dodge House in Lansing, Michigan, is one of the oldest surviving residences in the state capital. Construction began in eighteen fifty-five for the merchant James Turner, who had moved from nearby Mason to the new settlement of Lansing and selected a prominent river-front lot for his home. The house was completed in eighteen fifty-eight.

Around nineteen hundred the Dodges hired the Lansing architect Darius B. Moon to remodel it. After Turner's death in eighteen sixty-nine, his daughter Abigail and her husband Frank Dodge expanded and updated the property around the turn of the century.

The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in nineteen seventy-two and now operates as a museum and heritage center documenting Lansing's earliest years as a city.
