Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame

Near Jackson, Mississippi

Mississippi calls itself the birthplace of American music, and it is not an idle boast. The state produced the Delta blues, country gospel, rockabilly, and soul, and gave the world names from Charley Patton and Robert Johnson to B.B. King, Elvis Presley, Muddy Waters, and Jimmie Rodgers.

The Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame, housed in Jackson-Evers International Airport, exists to collect and honor that legacy. Each year the nonprofit inducts Mississippians who shaped the global music industry. Its programs include blues in schools, archival collections, and music history curricula. The Hall is a reminder that the cultural output of this small, often overlooked state ran far deeper than its geography would suggest, carried out of the cotton fields and juke joints along roads like the Natchez Trace and the Mississippi Delta highways, and into the ears of the world.
