Fort Zumwalt Park

Missouri

In seventeen ninety-eight, a Revolutionary War veteran named Jacob Zumwalt built a log home on a Spanish land grant north of the Missouri River, in what is now O'Fallon. Historians believe it was the first hewn log house in the region north of that river. When the War of eighteen twelve brought raids along the frontier, families sheltered at the Zumwalt farm during the raids, and it became known as Zumwalt's Fort.

In nineteen thirty-nine Missouri made the site a state park. The state sold it to the City of O'Fallon for one dollar in nineteen seventy-eight.
