The Papillion Boy Scouts' Cabin

Near Omaha, Nebraska

This sturdy little log cabin has served the Boy Scouts of Papillion for more than a century.

Scouting arrived here in nineteen thirteen with the founding of Troop One. In nineteen twenty one the village granted the troop's scoutmaster permission to build a headquarters. Scouts and townspeople hauled limestone from an old mill house for the foundation, and oak logs were cut and carried in from down near the Platte River. Before the first snow fell, the cabin stood finished with a green shingle roof and a stone fireplace, and the community dedicated it in the summer of nineteen twenty two.

The troop, later renumbered Sixty, has used the cabin continuously ever since. It has been carefully restored over the years with new chinking between the logs, and it has been recognized with a historical marker honoring its long service.
