Albuquerque Museum of Art and History
Near Albuquerque, New Mexico
In Old Town Albuquerque, steps from the plaza where the city was founded in seventeen oh six, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History sits inside a building designed by architect Antoine Predock and opened in nineteen seventy-nine. It holds one of the largest collections of Spanish colonial artifacts in the American Southwest, alongside paintings, sculptures, and photography that trace New Mexico's arc from Pueblo civilization through the Camino Real trade era, the Mexican period, and into the twentieth century. Outside, the museum's sculpture garden overlooks the Rio Grande bosque, and the historic neighborhood more than three hundred years old of Old Town surrounds it on every side, making the museum and the city it sits in feel like one continuous exhibition.
