The Historic Serf Theatre

New Mexico

On Douglas Avenue in Las Vegas, New Mexico, stands the Serf Theatre, built in nineteen thirty-seven as a movie house with hundreds of seats. The odd name is said to come from the initials of children in the founding family. It was run by Fox Intermountain Theatres on a street that follows the old Santa Fe Trail.

Inside are hand-painted murals, scenes of Spanish conquistadors arriving at the pueblos and settlers moving along the Santa Fe Trail. The Romero and Moore family bought the building in twenty twelve and restored it, keeping its historic character. Today it lives on as a music and events hall.
