National Women's Hall of Fame, Seneca Falls

Near Geneva, New York

Seneca Falls is where the modern American women's rights movement was launched. In July of eighteen forty-eight, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and four other organizers convened the first women's rights convention in a local chapel, producing the Declaration of Sentiments that called for equal treatment under law including the right to vote. It took another seventy-two years for that last demand to become the Nineteenth Amendment.

Fitting, then, that Seneca Falls is also home to the National Women's Hall of Fame. Founded here in nineteen sixty-nine and first inducing honorees in nineteen seventy-three, the Hall has recognized over three hundred women whose contributions shaped American life.
