Inverness Club

Near Toledo, Ohio

The Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio has hosted four United States Opens, more than almost any course in the Midwest. Founded in nineteen oh three and designed by Donald Ross, Inverness earned its first Open in nineteen twenty, when Ted Ray won the title and a young Bobby Jones made his U.S.

Open debut. The nineteen thirty-one Open produced the longest playoff in tournament history, seventy-two holes across two days before Billy Burke finally outlasted George Von Elm. Hale Irwin won his second Open title here in nineteen seventy-nine, having won his first in nineteen seventy-four.

The club has also hosted two PGA Championships and the Solheim Cup. In February of twenty twenty-six, the USGA announced that Inverness will host its fifth U.S.

Open in twenty forty-five, bringing major championship golf back to Toledo for the first time in over sixty years.
