Lewisburg: Preble County's First Municipality

Ohio

Lewisburg in Preble County, Ohio, was laid out in eighteen eighteen by a settler named Henry Horn, soon after Harrison Township was organized two years earlier. Horn named the village for Lewisburg in what was then Virginia, now West Virginia, the town he had left to come west. On February ninth, eighteen thirty, Lewisburg became the first village in all of Preble County to formally incorporate.

Local histories credit it as the oldest village in a county itself named for a naval hero of the Tripolitan War. Population today is about seventeen hundred.
