Rossford, Ohio: A Company Town Named for Love
Near Toledo, Ohio
Rossford is a city with a love story in its name. In eighteen ninety-eight glass pioneer Edward Ford purchased a hundred and seventy-three acres of farmland along the Maumee River just south of Toledo. Ford, already a veteran of the plate glass business, came here to build his own operation.
He called the new town Rossford, combining his surname with that of his wife, Caroline Ross. The Edward Ford Plate Glass Company soon began production, and Ford built a full company town around the factory, drawing workers from many backgrounds. Many ethnic groups eventually settled here, making Rossford a remarkably diverse community built around a single pane of glass.
