Strasburg, Ohio

Near Berlin, Ohio

Strasburg was first settled in eighteen twenty-eight in Tuscarawas County, along Sugar Creek. A large share of the early settlers were natives of the city of Strasbourg, and when it came time to name the Ohio town they chose the German spelling: Strasburg. The pattern repeated itself all across Tuscarawas and the neighboring counties, where Swiss, Alsatian, and German families planted names from home along Ohio creek bottoms. Today Strasburg sits near Ohio Amish country, where the same commitment to traditional life that once drew those early German settlers still shapes the landscape.
