West Carrollton, Ohio: The Other Carrollton
Near Dayton, Ohio
West Carrollton was laid out in eighteen thirty as plain Carrollton, a name shared with another Ohio town. Trouble was, Ohio already had another Carrollton in the northeastern part of the state, and mail kept going to the wrong place. The solution was simple: rename it West Carrollton.
The Miami and Erie Canal ran through the center of town, one of several forms of transport that served it. The city sits just south of Dayton and has been part of the Montgomery County suburban fabric ever since.
