Eight Mile Corner Tripoint
Oklahoma
Stand here and you can touch three states at once. This is Eight Mile Corner, the survey point where Kansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma all come together, out on the dry edge of the Cimarron National Grassland about eight miles west of Elkhart, Kansas. The original monument went in around nineteen oh three, and for decades a mock weather vane stood nearby, painted with the abbreviations of the three states, each pointing toward its own ground.
That vane was lost sometime in the twenty tens. In nineteen ninety the Bureau of Land Management resurveyed and reestablished the corner, and the true meeting place sits just below the surface of State Line Road, marked by a brass plate and a steel cover. A humble spot, but one of the few places in America where you can have a foot in three states and an arm free for the fourth.
