Army Heritage Trail: Walking Through American Wars
Near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
On the edge of Carlisle Barracks sits the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, the Army's primary historical research facility.
Its outdoor Army Heritage Trail runs one mile through full-scale reconstructions of American military environments across every major era: a Revolutionary War redoubt, Civil War log cabins, a World War One trench system, and a Vietnam firebase. Tanks, artillery, and transport vehicles line the path. The research center's holdings run to millions of items, including documents and photographs.
For anyone driving through south-central Pennsylvania with an hour to spare, this is one of the more immersive military history experiences in the country.
