Broadway Joe: Joe Namath in Beaver Falls

Joseph William Namath grew up right here in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, where he lettered in four sports at Beaver Falls High School before heading to the University of Alabama under Bear Bryant. Drafted by the New York Jets in nineteen sixty-five, he signed for four hundred twenty-seven thousand dollars, the largest contract in pro football history at the time. Namath spent thirteen seasons in professional football, most famously guaranteeing a Jets victory over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl Three, then delivering on that promise in one of sport's greatest upsets. "Broadway Joe" was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in nineteen eighty-five, and Beaver Falls has claimed him ever since.
