Enon Valley: The Valley of Many Waters
Near Youngstown, Pennsylvania
Enon Valley sits in Lawrence County where two branches of Little Beaver Creek join just north of the village. Settlers arrived in the early nineteenth century, and the village was laid out later. Its name draws on the biblical place called Enon, a site described as having abundant water. It fit perfectly: the valley's defining feature is the convergence of those creeks, and locals have called it the Valley of Many Waters ever since.
The Pittsburg, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad arrived in the eighteen fifties. Rail access briefly made Enon Valley a stopping point rather than a pass-through. The borough incorporated in eighteen ninety-nine. Today it's a small community of a few hundred people, still quietly sitting at the confluence that gave it its name.
