Pennsylvania Farm Show: A Century of Agriculture
Near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the United States. It got its start in January of nineteen seventeen, when state officials began gathering farmers, breeders, and exhibitors at various Harrisburg venues each winter. The show rotated between locations before finding its permanent home here, when a new Main Exhibition Building opened on this site.
The Large Arena followed, opening a few years later and adding enough capacity to host livestock competitions at a scale few agricultural fairs anywhere could match. Today the show draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each January, filling the complex with livestock judging, crop displays, dairy products, and the famously popular milkshakes and potato donuts. What began as a modest state showcase became a defining ritual of Pennsylvania winter and a living argument that farming remains the commonwealth's foundation.
