Concord, Tennessee
Near Knoxville, Tennessee
Concord is a historic community on the shore of Fort Loudoun Lake, just east of suburban Farragut and west of Knoxville. It was established in eighteen fifty-four as a river landing and mill town on the Tennessee River, serving farm goods moving toward Knoxville. The name is believed to come from the nearby Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
A Presbyterian church and several antebellum homes formed its core. When TVA completed Fort Loudoun Dam in nineteen forty-three, rising waters flooded about one third of the town, mostly its business district. Concord sits just east of Farragut, one of the wealthiest suburbs in Tennessee, and its historic district preserves the antebellum identity.
