Manchester, Tennessee

Tennessee

Manchester, Tennessee is the seat of Coffee County, named not for the beverage but for General John Coffee, a general who served under Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. The town sits on the Duck River plateau and has been the county seat since Coffee County was formed in eighteen thirty-six. Manchester is perhaps best known today as the home of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, held on a farm just outside town most summers since two thousand two. That festival, drawing tens of thousands of music fans to this small city of about twelve thousand people, has made Manchester's name recognized by concert-goers worldwide who might never otherwise have heard of Coffee County, Tennessee.
