Campbell, Texas
Texas
Campbell started in the fall of eighteen eighty when the East Line and Red River Railroad finally pushed its tracks out of Black Jack Grove toward Greenville. A depot went up almost immediately, and the settlement took the name Campbell, likely honoring Thomas M. Campbell, the railroad promoter who later became governor of Texas.
The name became official in September of eighteen eighty-two. Campbell became a reliable shipping center for area cotton farmers, a role it played quietly for the next century.
