Hall of State at Fair Park

Texas

The Hall of State at Fair Park is the crown jewel of the nineteen thirty-six Texas Centennial Exposition, a world's fair built to mark one hundred years of Texas independence from Mexico. The state spent one point two million dollars on it, a major sum for the time. George Dahl conceived the design and Donald Barthelme completed the final plans.

The exterior is Texas limestone, and above the main entrance stands an eleven-foot bronze statue of a Tejas Indian covered in gold leaf, sculpted by Allie Tennant. The building was officially dedicated on September sixth, nineteen thirty-six. In nineteen thirty-eight the Dallas Historical Society took custody, and it remains a museum of Texas history today.
