T&P Station, Fort Worth

Texas

The Texas and Pacific Railway opened its downtown Fort Worth terminal on October twenty-fifth, nineteen thirty-one, replacing an older station that could no longer handle the traffic. Architect Wyatt C. Hedrick designed it in Zigzag Moderne Art Deco: chevrons and zigzags in the stonework, an eagle in the same motif over the main entrance, and a lobby finished in marble floors, nickel fixtures, and metal-inlaid panel ceilings.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The last passenger trains departed in the late nineteen sixties, and the station sat largely vacant for decades. A restoration brought the terminal back to life, and it reopened as a stop on the Trinity Railway Express commuter line.

The building still hosts events and passengers today.
