The Holland Hotel: Alpine's Spanish Colonial Landmark
Near Alpine, Texas
The Holland Hotel has anchored Alpine's downtown for more than a century. It was designed by architect Henry C. Trost. Trost, based in El Paso, was a distinguished regional architect who designed many buildings across the Trans-Pecos region.
The Holland family later expanded the property with a three-story addition. The hotel became the social and business center for Big Bend country, hosting ranchers, mining engineers, and eventually writers and artists drawn to the Chihuahuan Desert landscape. Today the Holland remains the architectural heart of Alpine and the gateway town for Big Bend National Park.
