Wichita Falls Railroad Museum
Texas
Several railroad companies passed through Wichita Falls, Texas, and the Railroad Museum preserves their memory. Founded in nineteen eighty and housed at the former Union Station, the collection centers on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas line, the Katy, and holds a collection of Katy rolling stock. Its anchor is a Fort Worth and Denver Railway steam locomotive, Number Three Hundred Four, built at the Alco Brooks Works in nineteen oh six as a coal burner and converted to oil in nineteen twenty-nine.
The collection also includes Pullman troop cars, a heavyweight sleeper, cabooses, and former Chicago Burlington and Quincy equipment. North Texas rail history is inseparable from the cattle drives that preceded it and the oil booms that followed, and this museum connects both eras through the equipment that ran the lines.
