Hill Aerospace Museum: Ninety Planes in the Desert
Near Ogden, Utah
Just south of Ogden, Hill Air Force Base has been the heart of Air Force logistics in the West since it opened in nineteen forty. The base was named for Major Ployer Peter Hill, a test pilot killed in the crash of the experimental Boeing Flying Fortress in nineteen thirty-five. On its thirty acres, the Hill Aerospace Museum preserves dozens of aircraft in two indoor galleries and an outdoor air park, tracing the full arc of Air Force history in Utah and the American West.
From propeller trainers of World War Two to Cold War jets and Gulf War bombers, the collection is free to the public and draws visitors from across the region. The museum opened in nineteen eighty-seven and welcomed its one millionth visitor a decade later.
