The K-One Gondola to the Highest Lift-Served Summit
Near Killington, Vermont
This is the base of the K One Express Gondola, and the ride above you is unlike any other in the state. Its cabins climb a mile and a quarter up the shoulder of Killington Peak to a summit that sits at roughly four thousand two hundred forty one feet, making it the highest lift served summit anywhere in Vermont. Ride to the top and you can stand where, without a chair or a cable, you would need a long hike to reach.
Killington has a deep history with gondolas. Its very first one, installed in the resort's early decades, actually carried skiers all the way to the peak. In nineteen ninety four the mountain unveiled a spectacular replacement across the valley, the two stage Skyeship Gondola, built by the lift maker Poma.
Stretching about two and a half miles in two great legs, the Skyeship rose from a base beside the highway and lifted riders in enclosed cabins over the forest toward Skye Peak. Between the Skyeship, the K One, and a web of high speed chairs, Killington threads its enormous terrain together into a single connected mountain. For many visitors, the gondola is more than transport.
It is the moment the whole scale of the Beast finally comes into view.
