James Semple House
Virginia
Near the edge of Colonial Williamsburg stands a handsome old house. The James Semple House was probably built around seventeen seventy, and some authorities ascribe its design to Thomas Jefferson, though the designer is uncertain. James Semple acquired it in eighteen oh one.
John Tyler, the future tenth president and a relative of Semple, lived here while attending school. It became a National Historic Landmark in nineteen seventy.
