New Hope Church of Christ
Alabama
New Hope Church of Christ grew out of the great Restoration Movement that reshaped religion across this part of Alabama. According to the marker, it began as the Concordia Church of Christ, first gathering when a preacher named W. B.
Young rode over from Bethel Berry to hold services in the old Burcham Valley schoolhouse, another of the one room buildings that served both teaching and worship on the frontier. In time the congregation took the name New Hope. Longtime members, among them the family of William Brown Parish, donated the land for the first building, raised in nineteen oh three.
A storm wrecked it, and the people rebuilt in nineteen thirteen. The church you'd pass today was put up in nineteen sixty, the latest home of a country congregation that has kept its doors open for well over a century.
