Joseph Taylor Robinson House
Near Little Rock, Arkansas
The Craftsman bungalow at twenty-one twenty-two Broadway in Little Rock was home to Joseph Taylor Robinson during the years of his greatest power in Washington. Robinson served in the Senate from nineteen thirteen until his death, rose to become Senate Minority Leader, and then Majority Leader under Franklin Roosevelt from nineteen thirty-three to nineteen thirty-seven. He shepherded much of the early New Deal legislation through the Senate and was the first Arkansan ever placed on a major party presidential ticket, running for vice president in nineteen twenty-eight.
Robinson died in office in July of nineteen thirty-seven, while leading the fight to pass Roosevelt's controversial court-packing plan. The National Park Service designated his Little Rock home a National Historic Landmark in nineteen ninety-four.
