The Robert E. Lee Monument at Marianna
Arkansas
Lee County, Arkansas, was named for Robert E. Lee, and in nineteen ten the county put up a monument to the man himself. The D.
C. Govan Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy raised it to honor the county's Confederate veterans and the general who gave the county its name. Carved entirely of marble by the McNeel Marble Company, it shows Lee in his Confederate uniform standing atop a column some twenty feet high.
At its base sits a fountain fed by water pouring from two downward-pointing sculpted cannons. The monument was unveiled in nineteen ten, and it still stands in Marianna. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in nineteen ninety-six.
