Walnut Ridge: Where the Beatles Landed
Arkansas
In September of nineteen sixty-four, the Beatles were in the middle of their first American tour and were headed for a few days of rest at a Missouri retreat. Their plane touched down briefly at Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, a small Lawrence County town, and residents watched them leave. Decades later Walnut Ridge claimed the moment fully, building a Beatles monument and plaza and christening the route through town Rock and Roll Highway Sixty-Seven.
A Beatles at the Ridge music festival now fills the town each September. The smallest footnote in rock history turned into the whole town's identity.
