Denver Tech Center
Colorado
You are driving through the Denver Tech Center, one of the first suburban office parks ever built in America. It started in nineteen sixty-two, when a Denver developer named George Wallace bought forty acres of open prairie just off Interstate Twenty-Five, south of the city. The legend goes that Wallace, frustrated by downtown traffic and scratched-up parking, simply wanted a place where a businessman could leave his car in peace.
With architect Carl Worthington, he laid out a low-density campus of glass towers, green space, and easy access. Over the following years the holding grew to hundreds of acres. Today the Tech Center has swollen into a high-rise micro-city of roughly one thousand companies and about thirty-five thousand workers, an entire downtown that grew up on what was once Arapahoe County farmland.
